Our story

A guy on the crew, a sewing machine, and a bad summer

In 2011, Zack Schoeningh was working construction and losing the same fight every summer.

Bandanas slid. Sweatband liners felt terrible and still let the sweat run into his eyes. He wanted his hard hat to feel good, keep the sweat off his face, and be easy to keep clean — and nobody was making that.

So he made it himself. Not a repurposed skull cap. A liner shaped for the inside of a hard hat, with a real terry sweatband across the brow and straps that grab the suspension.

It got made. It got into a national safety catalog. And then it stalled — because Zack is a construction worker, not a salesman, and nobody ever gave it the push it needed.

That's what we're doing now.

Will this affect my hard hat's certification?

Lester Lids is designed to sit inside the hard hat without altering the fit or function of the shell or the suspension. It is an accessory, not head protection — helmets are certified to ANSI/ISEA Z89.1, accessories are not, and no accessory maker can certify your helmet. Always follow your helmet manufacturer's instructions on what may be worn underneath, and check with your site's safety manager if you're unsure. If your employer or site prohibits liners, follow their rule.

Will it fit my hard hat?

It's built for standard adult hard hats with 4- and 6-point suspensions, which covers the large majority of what's on a jobsite. One size fits most. If it doesn't work with yours, send it back — that's what the guarantee is for.

How do I wash it?

Machine wash cold with your work clothes and hang or tumble dry low. No special treatment. It's polyester with a terry band — it holds up.

When is the American Flag pattern coming back?
